Texas Garden Blog and Origins

When I started Texas Garden Blog, gardening wasn’t just a hobby I stumbled upon—it’s deeply rooted in my family’s history and my own personal journey. Growing up, I was surrounded by plants, gardens, and the people who nurtured them, though it took me years to truly embrace the magic of tending to my own patch of earth.

Some of my earliest memories are tied to my mom’s spider plants. As a child, they fascinated me—vibrant and alive, they were my first introduction to plants beyond the grass and trees around me. My mom grew up on a farm, and her love for plants clearly stayed with her. On my dad’s side, gardening was a legacy too. His grandparents always maintained a thriving garden, preserving their surplus to sustain their household. It was a way of life.

When my stepfather came into the picture, his dedication to his lawn and garden inspired me. His lush flowers and well-kept landscape were a testament to the care and joy he poured into his work. It didn’t stop there; my aunts and uncles also kept gardens, creating a patchwork of green-thumbed influence across the family.

Yet, for many years, I didn’t have the space—or perhaps the motivation—to cultivate my own garden. Houseplants remained elusive, as my feline companions had their own mischievous plans for any greenery I brought indoors. It wasn’t until I finally had a yard of my own that I discovered the true joy of gardening.

Today, my passion has blossomed in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Indoors, I have a growing collection of houseplants, particularly succulents that thrive with little fuss and reward me with their quirky charm. Outside, my garden is ever-evolving. I’m dedicated to growing Texas natives that support local wildlife and a diverse vegetable garden that changes with the seasons. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about eating a meal that I’ve grown myself or watching the bees and butterflies visit the flowers I’ve planted.

Through this journey, I’ve come to see gardening not just as an activity but as a connection to my roots and the natural world. It’s about patience, care, and the reward of growth—both for the plants and for myself. That’s what inspired me to start my Texas Garden Blog, where I share the lessons I’ve learned, the triumphs of my garden, and the occasional mishaps that come with it all.

If you share a love for gardening or are just curious about starting your own, I invite you to join me there. Together, we can dig deeper (pun intended) into the art, science, and pure joy of gardening in Texas.
